Jos Willems Early Career Investigator Competition
Share |

The Jos Willems Early Career Investigator Competition is open to current students in an academic degree program; to interns, residents, or fellows; and to anyone who has received a terminal academic degree (or for MDs, completed a continuous residency) within the 4 years prior to the Conference (proof required). A JW Early Career Investigator competitor may submit only one abstract for the competition but may also be a co-author, though not a first author (presenter) on a regular abstract submission. A JW Early Career Investigator Competition winner may not resubmit to this competition; non-winning finalists may resubmit in the competition only once.

The submitted abstract should not previously have been accepted for presentation elsewhere and should not relate to work already submitted for publication.  Furthermore, finalists must agree to submit a paper, based on their abstract, to the Journal of Electrocardiology.

A panel of judges, selected by the JW Early Career Investigator Competition chair and representing diverse disciplines, will rate the submitted abstracts; those investigators ranked the highest will be invited as finalists to present their work at the Conference. An additional panel of judges selected from Conference participants will decide the winner. Each finalist will receive travel reimbursement in an amount no greater than the least expensive fares obtainable by the executive administrator for each traveler, and will have their conference fees waived. Non-finalists will be invited to present their work at the conference as posters. Those non-finalists attending the conference and presenting a poster will receive a 50% reduction of conference fee.

All JW Early Career Investigator Competition applicants who attend the conference and present their work will receive for the following year an associate membership in ISCE with privileges and benefits. Finalists in the competition also will receive a one year subscription to the Journal of Electrocardiology.

The abstract submission deadline is December 1, 2017  for the 2018 Conference.  Please use the following format when submitting an abstract:

Line 1:  Title of the abstract
Line 2:  Authors’ names, institution, city, state, country.
Line 3:  Blank line
Beginning on line 4:  Body of the abstract, which may include a table if appropriate

Additional guidelines:
No illustrations or references should be included. Please prepare in MS Word. Submissions must be 400 words or less. If you would prefer to submit a paper copy, please fax your submission to (978) 250-1117, and include your name, degree, institution, mailing address, email address, and phone number on your cover sheet. Please email Susan Wagner with questions.
